  • Concrete-set posts

Why our fences

A fence is only as strong as the posts supporting it.

Leaning posts, rotted bases and panels lifting in the wind usually trace back to the support, ground contact or specification. Here's how we build around those weak points.

Correct treatment for every component

Treatment is matched to where each component sits: ground-contact-grade timber for posts and timber gravel boards, and pressure-treated exterior-grade timber for rails and fence boards.

Concrete-set posts

Set to the right depth and properly haunched in concrete, with the post size and spacing matched to the fence and its exposure.

Built for long service life

Correctly treated timber, protected end grain and gravel boards keep vulnerable components away from prolonged moisture.

Built for Scottish weather

Post size, rail layout and spacing are chosen to suit the boundary and the wind exposure found during the site survey.

Four clear style choices

Lap panel, closeboard and single- or double-sided contemporary slatted fencing, with decorative details where wanted.

5-year written guarantee

Workmanship guarantee on every install. Posts, panels, gates, the lot.

Our 7-step install

From old fence out to new fence in.

Standard garden fencing is often completed within 1–3 days. Larger and bespoke slatted installations may take longer. Here's exactly what happens.

    Site survey

We assess the boundary, ground conditions, exposure and access in person.

  2. 2

    Step 2

    Old fence removal

Existing timber fencing lifted where required, posts dug out and normal timber debris removed and disposed of. Abnormal demolition is quoted separately.

  3. 3

    Step 3

    Post setting

Posts dug to proper depth and concrete-haunched with postcrete at correct intervals.

  4. 4

    Step 4

    Gravel boards fitted

Concrete or pressure-treated timber gravel boards installed to keep panels off the ground.

  5. 5

    Step 5

    Panels, boards or slats

Panels, individual featheredge boards or contemporary slats fitted accurately to the required layout and spacing.

  6. 6

    Step 6

Styles & pricing

Four styles. Same install standard.

Straightforward pricing, based on the fence you actually want. Most Strathworks timber fencing installations fall between £110 and £210 per linear metre, depending on the style, height, ground conditions and access. The prices below are a guide; after a free site visit you'll receive a fixed price before any work starts.

How the guide rates work: Guide rates are based on a standard 1.8 m fence on runs of 10 m or more with normal access and ground conditions. Short runs are priced as a fixed job. Existing timber fence removal is included where required. Gates, retaining work, substantial roots or concrete, masonry walls, trees or hedges, contaminated waste and unusually difficult access are quoted separately. For worked examples by run length, see our fencing cost guide.

Frequently asked

Honest answers, no upsells.

How long will my fence last?
Service life depends on the timber treatment, exposure, drainage and maintenance rather than the fence style alone. We use correctly treated timber, protect cut ends and keep the infill off the ground with gravel boards. We'll explain any maintenance your chosen finish needs.
Can you match my existing fence?
Most existing styles and heights, yes. We'll bring samples to confirm the match for any extension or repair work.
Do you need access to both sides?
Ideally yes, but we can work from one side if needed. We'll discuss neighbour access at the site survey.
What about boundary disputes?
We can advise on typical arrangements and which side is conventionally yours, but we can't resolve legal disputes. Best to confirm boundary ownership before we start.
Can you install gates?
Yes. Matching timber pedestrian gates start from £350 installed. Bespoke, slatted and double drive-through gates are quoted to suit the opening, posts and hardware.
Concrete or timber posts?
Concrete posts don't suffer from timber rot at ground level and can provide a very long service life. Timber posts give a more traditional all-timber finish. We'll recommend the right option for your garden, exposure and budget.
Do I need planning permission for a new fence?
In Scotland, many rear and side garden fences can be installed without planning permission, but height and location matter — particularly beside roads, in conservation areas or around listed buildings. We'll flag anything during the survey that may need checked with the council.
